The Town of Salisbury was incorporated in 1639. The population was 9,236 in 2020. The town has 15.37 square miles of land. The town earned its reputation as the perfect summer resort beach town following the construction of Beach Road in 1866. The road gave access to the town’s 5 miles of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean.
Amusement Parks, Arcades, Shops, Restaurants, and Hotels started springing up when Beach Road was complete. The resort town was born, and the summers were busy. The Roller Toboggan, the first roller coaster in Salisbury Beach, was built in 1885. It was replaced by the Scenic Railway which was in turn replaced by the Sky Rocket in 1912. The Wildcat was built in 1927 and provided summertime thrills until 1973.
Salisbury is now regarded for its beaches, fishing, boating, and summertime entertainment.
